It Was 40 Years Ago

Ah yes, the summer of 1967. And what a wild and strange summer it was in America and worldwide. Things were changing all over the place from music to fashion to politics to civil rights and everything in between.

On a certain saturday in that July, I just happened to be born (the 15th to be exact) and this sunday will be my 40th anniversary of that day (otherwise known as a birthday LOL!) [img]graemlins/cake.gif[/img] [img]graemlins/party.gif[/img]

But other than my birth, there were some other things going on in 1967.

LOVE was becoming a state of being as much as an emotion as the summer of love was in full swing

Even in Cincinnati

On June 12, 1967 - the day after Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. visited the city to call for non-violence - a riot erupted in Avondale and spread to eight other African American communities within the city after a protestor was arrested for loitering. Smoldering tensions exploded into several days of widespread civil unrest. Soon hundreds of heavily armed national guardsmen and city police officers were patrolling black sections of Cincinnati. ?Armored trucks roared up and down the streets, and angry young blacks burned, looted, and marauded? (Taylor, 1993). During the conflict, one person was killed, and more than 60 were injured, including 25 police officers and firefighters. Over 400 people were arrested. More violence occurred in July, and total property damage reached three million dollars.

40 years, not some a long time from a historical perspective, but I'm almost a year further from my date of birth LOL!

Well, it was a pretty good day.

Made myself a great breakfast, went to the zoo, celebrated ice cream day (had to be done) watched the Cubs Win and then went out to dinner with my mom and sister at Mccormick and Schmicks. Not too shabby, not too shabby at all.
